Non-Toxic Toothpaste

Non-toxic toothepaste

Why do we care about a toxic toothpaste?

Toothpaste is a product that has high use, twice a day for most people and therefore should be at the top of your list for non-toxic products to swap out for healthier alternatives.

Toothpaste also has direct contact to your skin and absorption through your mouth / gums. Your gums are highly absorbent and serve as a frontline for toxin intake, meaning they readily absorb substances placed in the mouth, including chemicals and toxins.

Considering it’s going in your mouth, it would be hard not to swallow a little…

A Good Rule of Thumb:

If a product has a warning label that it should not be ingested or you shouldn’t be exposed to it for long periods of time, that’s a red flag that harmful ingredients are at play. Consider those warnings as a sign to be cautious of using the product.

We’re moving into a day and age where non-toxic products are more common so if you see a red flag warning, take the time to try and find a less harmful alternative and save yourself from the toxic load!

Many healthier products are safe to be ingested or used for many purposes because they don’t contain harmful ingredients that could cause serious damage if not used properly. Instead, they contain many natural ingredients that are found in nature and don’t cause harm, yet are still effective.

The Dangers of Fluoride

Several studies have shown a link between fluoride exposure and thyroid problems. Fluoride interferes with the enzymes in the thyroid, which disrupts and reduces the production of TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone).

Fluoride can impact the brain. It has been recognized as a developmental neurotoxin, with numerous studies connecting it to reduced cognitive function and lower IQ levels.

Flouride affects your third eye function, clouding up your ability to connect to your inner wisdom and intuition.

My Recommendation:

I’m trying my first non-toxic toothpaste right now, Cinnamint Toothpaste from Wellnesse

Keep in mind, there’s other great products available in the market so feel free to explore your options!

This toothpaste is fluoride-free – which was my main criteria for the swap.

It has a cinnamon flavour and leaves your teeth feeling clean.

Price Range

Since I live in Canada, there were hefty shipping fees, costing as much as the small bottle. The total cost for one bottle after shipping and tax was $42.23 CAN – big yikes..

This was definitely a splurge! I’m sure there’s cheaper alternatives that would work well for you.

Toxic Rating

On the plus side! Cinnamint Toothpaste from Wellnesse was rated as Excellent (86/100) on the Yuka app (Yuka is an app for scanning household products for toxicity).

The only negatives were that it has some low risk fragrance allergens for the flavours, Cinnamomum Zeylanicum Leaf Oil and Mentha Piperita. However, since these are essentials oils, they can have irritation to anyone who is very sensitive to scents like cinnamon or mint.
